The 206 speedometer is an electronic device. There is no speedometer cable to go bad / replace as in older Peugeot models.
The speedometer gets its information from a computer chip behind the instrument cluster. based on gearbox speed, gear, Tire = tyre size, etc. In fact, if you change to a larger tyre size, the Peugeot dealer can reset the chip to give a newer accurate speed on the gauge....
You will need to have this device replaced. It doesn't have to be genuine Puegeot, I THINK????, byut shop around on the internet.
This is a very common complaint about the 206 model.

Based on what Trevor said, it all makes sense now.
Peugeot electrics are shoddy as hell.
Steer clear!!!
My cousin's 106 went up in flames while off due to electrical fault.
Heard similar about 306s
Our 206 stopped and smoke started wafting into the cabin - electrical fault again!
