Question:
Peugeot 306 dashboard back light not working?
2011-05-31 15:55:40 UTC
The back light on the dashboard for my peugeot does not work, meaning I can't see the speedometer, Rev counter or fuel gauge at night. the icons all show up, such as headlights, full beams hand break etc. I unfortunately haven't got the manual to look at the fuses but have tested the majority to no avail (haven't a replacement for the other fuses) any ideas?
The online diagrams of fuse boxes haven't helped as they don't seem relevant... any help would be much appreciated.

If the dashboard itself is still working ok, and all the auxiliary lights are still working like you say, I'd be inclined to recommend changing the bulb(s) in your dashboard unit. It's not a particularly difficult job, but if your not competent you may as well let your local garage / mechanic do it as it shouldn't be to expensive.

Hope this helps, I'll be happy to answer any further questions.

If it's a non standard radio, then the wiring may have been butchered causing a short. It's the only thing I can think of, since one of the radio wires has a feed coming from the dash lights to dim the radio display when the lights are on. fuses "seem ok"... Take them all out 1 by 1 and check them individually (disconnect battery first though) Or, the handbook should tell you exactly which fuses affect what. Maybe all the bulbs have magically blown! I doubt it's an alternator fault because you'd get the battery symbol lit when the engine was running.

It sounds like maybe a fuse has gone in the system. You should run a diagnostics test using a Verus system (Car Computer) which are about £7,000 but you can definitely find one in you're local garage. These faults are quite common on Peugeot's but they're easy to fix and usually only cost you about £20 to do (Labour included).

Hope this helps :)
