There is usually a small(diameter) wire that goes to the possitive side of the battery with a fuse in the line. Take the fuse out to break the circuit. The fuse will be in a small thin back box of some sort on the wire about one inch in height and width. to make sure you are taking out the right fuse on the right wire follow the wire from the battery and if it goes to some kind of control box for the alarm or loud horn than you have the right wire and fuse. If there is no fuse cut the wire. I am guessing that you would probably like to just reset the alarm if you could. To do this either remove the fuse and then replace it, or there is sometimes a button under the dash of your car that you can push to reset/adjust the alarm, make sure your ignition is in the "on" position.

To totally disable the alarm system, open the boot, to the right is a keylock, you should have a separate key for this, turn it, and this'll disable the alarm altogether. You can just disable the interior sensors by pressing the button by the drivers right knee that looks like o))). This will only work for one activation and must be repeated each time to disable the sensors. The alarm on the Pug V6 will sounds for about 5-10 mins once the battery has been disconnected. If you've changed the battery, you should ideally fit an 075, although you may have an 065 or 027/3.

Have you tried resetting your key fob? This must be done when you change the battery in your key fob, and may well be necessary when you change the big battery too.

I have the 406 handbook in front of me now. It's written in Dutch, which I understand perfectly. I will translate all to English for you (my native language).

If the remote control doesn't work after the replacement of the battery, this must again be reprogrammed.

If lamp "B" only one time glows, or doesn't glow at all if the button is pressed, change the battery.

PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE CONTROL KEY FOB

1. Push on button 'A' (in the center of the key) and hold down, until little lamp 'B' blinks. ('B' is also on the fob)

2. Let the button 'A' go. The blinking lamp burns constantly.

3. Push 2 times on button 'A' in the immediate vicinity of the auto.

4. Set the ignition contact switch ON for at least 3 seconds.

....(I believe this means insert car key and turn it to the "M" position. "M" for accessories ON position. It is not necessary to start the car, in furthest position 'D')

5. Turn the ignition OFF.

The remote key fob now works again.

NOTICE: Don't push the remote control button OUT OF RANGE of the auto. By that, the system can go out of order. In this case, the remote must be again re-programmed.

(It doesn't say what the range is??)

If the remote doesn't work after changing the battery, it must be reprogrammed.

Seek advice from your service-dealer if the problem persists.

Wire snips and a hammer should do the trick.
