peugeot 406"1997" problem. windows have a mind of there own!!?

Question

hi, my pug 406 GLX has haunted front windows!! they go up&down fine,but soon as the glass gets to the top 2 secs later
down they come down all by them selfs(dam annoying) cant put the dead locks on couz down come the windows again??
any ideas?

It's not an electrical problem, it needs re-programming. This can happen if the battery has been disconnected. Here is the procedure for a 406, I own a 406 coupe and this has worked for me, courtesy of a Haynes manual:



"If the battery has been disconnected with a window open, the window will need to be re-programmed once the battery is re-connected. To do this, turn on the ignition switch and fully lower the window to its stop. Hold the switch until the relay clicks then, within 2 seconds, fully raise the window (it will rise in short steps). Once the window is fully closed, keep the switch depressed for a few seconds; this will initialise the ECU so that it learns the fully closed position. Release the switch and check the window operates normally. Repeat the procedure as necessary."

no i wouldn't put your arm in it!!! 1997 406 is not fitted with a sensor. also it would not affect both windows. try electrical spray in your switches. 306's have a common problem where the windows go down then come strait back up. i would guess this is the same you could just need some new switches. to check just put the windows up and disconnect them. see what happens. hope this helps

I am guessing that there is a safety feature on the electric windows...



Suppose a child had his head sticking outside the windows? And his knee was on the switch... windows up? Disaster!

The safety feature senses resistance to the upward force, and reverses the direction. Saving the child's neck and injury.



Please experiment with my theory. Put your arm in the window's path and see what happens. Tell me I am wrong, if I am wrong. I don't need the 10 points, I, myself am curious.
