NEWER Peugeots can go 120,000 km for the first belt change. What year is your 206?
All the owners manuals say "every 60000 km" change the timing belt. You meant kilometers? or miles? 58,000 miles is about 93,000 km, so you would be VERY due for a belt.
One answer here said, 'check your belt for wear or stretching'. WELL! If you open the covers and can see and turn yur belt by hand to 'check it', then it's 10 minutes more work to replace it then and there!
The belt costs about 20 euro in Belgium = 15 pounds?? Do it!
I have replaced old timing chains, gears, timing belts on the Peug 205 (1990,93) the 405 ('89) Ford Escort (2000) Buick Century (90). All you young 'armchair' mechanics that have READ about it can give me all the thumbs downs you want.
